FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Step-Up work?

Purchase a ticket for a live competition. Each ticket is one entry into that competition's draw.

How much is a ticket?

Every ticket is R10. The Lotteries Act requires every ticket in a competition to cost the same, so there are no bulk discounts and no booking fees at checkout.

What are my chances of winning?

Our current competition has a maximum of 100,000 tickets. Unsold tickets are void and do not go into the draw, so if fewer tickets sell, every ticket entered has a better chance of winning. The R100,000 prize is paid in full no matter how many tickets sell, and one ticket is one entry.

How much of my ticket goes to charity?

85% of the net proceeds of every competition (after the prize and running costs) goes directly to the benefiting charity. For the current competition, that means up to R612,000 to Hout Bay United Football Community (NPO 165406). Step Up Competitions (Pty) Ltd is wholly owned by the Hout Bay United Football Community Trust.

How are winners chosen?

Winners are selected by random draw in accordance with the competition's Terms and Conditions, our Terms of Service and our registered scheme with the National Lotteries Commission.

When is the draw?

Entries for the current competition close on 30 September 2026 and the draw takes place on 1 October 2026, livestreamed on our official social media channels. The winner's name and winning ticket number are published on our Winners page.

How will I know if I've won?

Winners are notified by email and telephone, using the details provided at purchase, within 5 working days of the draw. The winner's name and winning ticket number are also published on our Winners page.

Is Step-Up licensed?

Yes. Our competitions are society lotteries promoted by Step Up Competitions (Pty) Ltd on behalf of Hout Bay United Football Community (NPO 165406), NLC society registration 00268/01. The current competition's Society Lottery Scheme is registered with National Lotteries Commission (NLC. 00268/02).

Who can enter?

Entrants must be 18 or older and resident in South Africa. Anyone connected with the creation or administration of Step-Up competitions may not enter. Please play responsibly. If you feel you may have a gambling problem, contact the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation on 0800 006 008.

Can I get a refund?

Ticket sales are final, as the Lotteries Act requires. See our Refund Policy for the limited cases where a payment can be refunded.
