Step-Up Terms of Service

Welcome to Step-Up (“Step-Up”, “we”, “our”, or “us”). These Terms of Service govern your participation in any competition hosted on our website [www.step-up.africa] or affiliated platforms. By purchasing an entry, answering the qualifying question, or engaging with our Services, you agree to these Terms.

1. Who Can Enter

To enter a Step-Up competition, you must:

  • Be 18 years or older.
  • Be a South African citizen or permanent resident.
  • Not be an employee or immediate family member of Step-Up or any individual directly involved in the administration of the competitions.

We reserve the right to verify identity and eligibility at any time.

2. How It Works

1. Enter the Competition

  • Purchase a ticket through our website.
  • Answer a basic skill-based question (e.g. “What is 10 + 5?” or “Which city is the capital of South Africa?”).

2. Qualification

  • Only entries with the correct answer will be included in the draw.
  • Incorrect entries are excluded — if one is drawn by mistake, a new number is drawn until a valid winner is found.

3. Random Draw

  • Winners are selected using a Google Random Number Generator.
  • The draw is streamed live on our official Facebook and YouTube pages for transparency.
  • An independent judge oversees the draw to ensure compliance and fairness.

3. Ticket Entries

  • There is no hard limit on how many tickets a person can purchase unless stated otherwise for a specific competition.
  • We reserve the right to cap ticket purchases per user on a per-competition basis, and this will be clearly communicated on the entry page.
  • Abuse of the system (e.g. bots, multiple accounts, fake entries) will result in disqualification and potential legal action.

4. WhatsApp Communication

  • You may opt-in to receive updates and promos via WhatsApp either during checkout or via a follow-up message after purchase.
  • No marketing messages will be sent unless you explicitly opt in.
  • WhatsApp messaging is powered by a compliant third-party service provider, and your data is processed securely.
  • You may opt out at any time by replying “STOP” or contacting us directly.

5. Prizes

  • The prize will be clearly displayed on the competition page.
  • If a cash alternative is offered, its value (usually 80% of the prize retail value) will be specified.
  • If the prize becomes unavailable for any reason, we may offer a substitute of equal value (within -/+ 5%).
  • Prize delivery timelines and methods vary by product and will be discussed with the winner.

6. Winner Verification

Winners will be required to:

  • Provide valid South African identification (ID or passport).

  • Confirm their contact and delivery details.

  • Respond within 7 days of being contacted or the prize may be forfeited and redrawn.

7. Publicity & Consent

  • Winners may be asked (but not required) to participate in marketing (photos, video, testimonials).
  • We may share winner names and general locations (e.g., "Thabo M. from Durban") on our website and social media for legitimacy.

8. Data Protection

  • Your personal data will be processed in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
  • We only share your data with third-party services required to deliver the competition (e.g., Shopify, payment processors, WhatsApp).

9. Fraud & Misconduct

We reserve the right to:

  • Disqualify any entrant found to be cheating or manipulating the system.
  • Refuse service or participation to anyone suspected of abuse or misconduct.
  • Take legal action where necessary to protect the integrity of the platform.

10. Liability

  • Step-Up is not responsible for technical issues, network failures, or unforeseen events that affect the entry or draw process.
  • Prizes are awarded “as-is” and Step-Up makes no warranties regarding third-party products.

11. Surprise Contact Opt-In

As part of your entry, you may choose to provide the contact details of a trusted friend or family member to help us coordinate a surprise if you win. This is completely optional and used only for celebratory purposes such as:

  • Surprise prize deliveries
  • Social media reveal planning
  • Coordinated announcements

We will not contact this person unless you are selected as a winner and will never share or use their information for marketing or any other purpose without your explicit consent. You can update or remove your surprise contact at any time by emailing us at info@step-up.africa.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Any changes will be published on our website and reflected in the "Last Updated" date above. Continued participation implies acceptance of the revised Terms.
